Projects
Projects that enhance student learning and draw upon innate talents and interests
are always a great way to infuse lessons with excitement and energy.
Projects that connect to the curriculum add enrichment and depth. They stretch the corners of the mind.
Here is a small sampling of just some of the curriculum enrichment projects I designed
and created for my students over the years.

Gold panning on the American River
We couldn't take a trip to the American River so I brought the American River to my 4th grade classroom.
It didn't' matter that the gold was simply spray painted rocks, to these 49er minors it was real and more than a few that day came down with a serious case of gold rush fever

Prehistoric Cave Art
A field trip to France from India?
Transported by modern technology 6th grade students take a virtual field trip
to the famous Lascaux caves in France.Using individual lap tops, students have the opportunity to virtually walk through limestone tunnels and into the past. Glimpsing with their own eyes prehistoric cave art frozen in time. It's always a huge hit! Once back in the classroom students use chalk, crinkled paper, and their own imaginations to recreate their own cave-mural.

Active Reading Strategies and the RRJ
Students respond to literature using active reading strategies. Reading Response Journals are one way students can share their ideas about story and character development. As students reflect on what they've read on a independent personal level, the RRJ allows me to check comprehension and see how they are making connections with what they are reading.
Calligraphy Brush Painting
Even in India a little of ancient China can make its way into the classroom.
Whether it's eating popcorn with chop sticks, seeing a video on Sericulture (silkworm raising),
or leaning about the ancient art form of calligraphy
on this day the classroom is always filled with smiles and laughter.

Later, students collaborated in teams and created Wanted Posters.
